ELECTRICITY The Electricity at Work Regulations place legal duties on employers to asses and define foreseeable risks from all electrical equipment and electrical systems found in the workplace. Employers are required to comply with the Regulations where they relate to matters under their control, for example, they should have in place a safe system of work to ensure that electrical systems are installed, operated and maintained in a safe manner. Employers must also ensure that all electrical equipment, including fixed equipment and portable appliances, is suitable for its intended use and is regularly maintained, inspected and tested to prevent danger to those persons using the equipment and ensure it is used only by competent persons. Electrical contractors have additional responsibilities under the BS 7671 "Requirements for Electrical Installations" and are required to record all checks, inspections and tests carried out on electrical installations. |
