TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT A contract of employment can be ended by mutual agreement or by either the employer or employee giving notice of termination. However the employment ends, it is important for the employer to record facts relating to the termination of an employee's employment and to ensure that, where applicable, sufficient notice of termination is given or received, in accordance with statute or the contract of employment. Employers must also ensure that any statement which comprises a reference for the leaving employee is true and accurate. It is also good practice to provide the leaving employee with a written record or summary of relevant information as at the date of termination, such as details of any company pension, severance pay or any parental leave taken. |
