STATUTORY SICK PAY (SSP) The Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act and the Social Security Administration Act place on employers the responsibility of paying Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), up to 28 weeks in any Period of Incapacity for Work, to their employees who are sick and unable to work, and to provide all employees with information concerning their entitlement to SSP, in what circumstances it will be paid and the amount to be paid. In addition, employers are required to undertake a certain amount of administration in relation to SSP, for example checking an employee's entitlement to SSP, maintaining records of sickness absence, the amount of SSP paid and how this was calculated. |
